New page

The Keep’s spies and informants paint a picture of the Torch Councils more at each other’s throats than normal: allegiances are straining and shifting in the wake of Vicriax’s ascent. The Flame and Iron Councils are feuding - the dragons are mostly outraged and paranoid in the wake of the usurpation and demand repercussion, while the humans are used to such affairs in the matter of politics and more concerned by the deadman’s switch beneath a city of their subjects. The loyalties of the Council of Fuel, rarely of much concern, are more muddled than before, with a handful rallying behind the first real power they’ve had amidst their ranks.

Keep scouts confirm that the Colossus remains restrained but that the Torch is losing ground in its wars against its neighbors. The attrition of multiple battlefronts, the campaign against the Colossus, and the disruptions of Onox’s assassination are all taxing the Torch’s vast armada. Intelligence also notes low morale and high desertion among Torch forces, with shaky conscripts drawn to fill the gaps.

To the west, the Scorpion King’s forces have breached Torch lines and razed some western settlements. A powerful advance marches on Twinpyre, weeks away and earthbound but undeterred by the forces the Torch has been able to put in its path. Ordinarily, a Councillor of Flame, likely Arcoran of the Ruby, would fly over and rout the insurgent forces. With the feud between the Councils, however, the draconic nobility and their mighty bloodlines have withdrawn from the battlefields, vowing not to stick out their necks while the dragonslayers live to cut them. As such, Lord Fireheart commands a depleted army in bitter skirmishes against the Scorpion’s nigh-unstoppable force of war-mutants.
.
With the fall of Haxyrn’s Talon some months ago, the perpetually overcast skies of the Gray Steps have begun spreading beyond their former border, creeping up to the horizon of the fortress-city of Golarth. Though their advance is slower than the march of the Scorpion’s forces, mining and agricultural settlements have been evacuated so that their civilians do not swell the undead armies massing beneath the sunless sky. With less resources coming in, more mouths to feed, and doom creeping closer every day, tensions are growing within Golarth with no clear support from the Councils. Lord Arva Siroon has been sighted within the city walls, but remains aloof, uninterested in acting as any sort of leader to the people.

Typhaeron, the Thundercaller is known to be an opportunist, and his forces descend on the embattled Torch in order to pick it clean while its armies are weakened. Raids and ravagings have been reported along the southern Torch Empire, attributed to his fleet. However, his flagship, the Fang of the Horizon, has yet to be sighted in Torch airspace. He himself has not made any appearance, nor - save Maergos - have any of his lieutenants. The Gale Queen’s advisory council suspects he may have a grander plot, but don’t have enough information to know what it might be, or from where he is staging it. They do, however, know that some ships of his motley fleet have taken over Dawnfont, a town that serves as a vacation villa for pampered Torch aristocracy. The captains of those ships may know what Typhaeron plans with the Torch.
