Session Log 2022-11-29
Robin led Alena, Oliod, Geral the Generous, and the cousins out into the wasteland. In the torchless night, they walked up the length of the river to find a good crossing point. The adults swam across, but the children had to be ferried by Robin and a still-subservient Geral.
In the darkness they were able to evade the erratic search patterns of the pirated vessels. They came upon the hidden Keep vessel, which Geral found concerningly plain for a noble's craft. Robin explained that it was intended for subterfuge - not technically a lie, but a sufficient enough deflection that he could be persuaded to Generously pilot the ship for her.
Robin told him to fly back for Dawnfont, a suggestion he took with some alarm - surely an unfamiliar craft would be pursued by the newly-captured pirate ships. Robin flexed her illusion magic and cloaked the vessel in graffiti and defacement to match that of the other stolen ships. Eliding the attention of the patrol ships, the group flew south.
Still pursued by the Queen of Crows and it's fireball-slinging magic, Ekkels piloted the flying carpet evasively. Tigni, lacking piloting experience, served as lookout. However, the larger vessel maintained a greater distance than before, and Ekkels was unable to find an opening in which to recreate his earlier reversal.
Ekkels flew low, attempting to find any kind of opening or landmark behind which he could lose their pursuers. However, the vast, dark, and barren wasteland offered little in the way of shelter. Tigni noted Cayrin at the prow of the Queen of Crows, scrutinizing the two of them.
He attempted to take a course that would loop back to Dawnfont, but the Queen of Crows was able to maneuver between him and the safety of the anti-peasant wards. Their course took them out by the crater lake. As they flew along its northern shore, Tigni recalled a hidden passage for pre-permitted servants to deliver goods to the villa without having to be seen by its residents.
Ekkels flew the carpet stealthily up to the entrance, then made a sharp turn to dive inside. The passage was as Tigni described, though in poor condition. They had gotten away from the Corvaines - their ship was far too large for the passage, so even if they found the path, they would have to pursue on foot.
Ignis and Klaitos sized up their opposition and decided that they didn't want to tangle with the paralytic venom of the Catch of the Day after the injuries they had taken fighting Krotokos. They shoved their way back through the mob at the base of the stair and beat a fighting retreat out of the building.
Outside, Ignis summoned a ring of flame to make a little space. Klaitos gave him a boost up to the second floor of the hangar, and he climbed in through the ship-gate. He saw the Catch of the Day idling in the middle of the room and the Titanhammer swaying in midair - its engines engaged but its controls contested.
Ignis decided that seizing the Titanhammer was the most prudent course of action and leapt for the still-attached rigging. Klaitos, clambering up behind him, followed suit. Ignis found himself dangling upside-down from his midsection, caught in a loop of rope. Klaitos left him to fend for himself and climbed towards the deck. The Catch turned towards them, still intent on its denied prey.
Ignis righted himself but struggled to get himself free of the rigging. The Titanhammer, drifting off into the wall of the Hangar, was moving too erratically for him to risk cutting himself free. Klaitos, likewise, found it tricky to climb the tilting side of the vessel. He drew on his storm magic and his upbringing on various airships to stabilize it with a gyre of wind.
Ignis used the stability of the ship to free himself, just in time to evade the volley from the Catch of the Day, and climbed up after Klaitos. Klaitos reached the deck of the Titanhammer and found himself in yet another melee. A trio of what appeared to be Krotokos's giant crewmembers were fighting off a mutant that rresembled a bear with two bears' worth of mass at the steerage. Other opportunists leapt in and were pummeled out of the brawl.
