Session Log 2024-01-19
Robin made her illusory Haxryn of the emerald fly up into the concealment of the Umbra overhead, drawing the dragon-rider in the dented armor away from the battlefield in pursuit. She used the distraction to climb down the damaged Golarth wall to the warehouse plaza below.
Klaitos and Ekkels rounded the massive, burning corpse of Urtholon of the Emerald and found Ignis alive but unconscious. Lacking the time or skills to tend to his wounds, Klaitos gathered him off the ground. They joined Robin at the battered warehouse, atop which Angitt's ballista was still mounted. She scaled it easily, but the other two struggled to follow after, even with Ignis set aside and a rope tossed down for them.
The part-dragon descended from the Umbra with a vengeful glare. Robin took a shot with the ballista, but barely slowed him down as he dived down at her, and his blade scored a bloody slash along her leg. As he repositioned for another strike, Ekkels suddenly used his chaos magic to swap places with him, teleporting to the rooftop before the ballista. Klaitos took advantage of the disorientation to land a solid punch.
The dragon-rider declared that Klaitos would be made his eternal servant for the crime of daring to lay a hand on a "Prince of the Gray Steps". He flew into the air and breathed down a wave of barely-visible shimmering air. Klaitos could barely see the attack, let alone dodge it, and felt his skin blister and char as though ignited with an invisible flame.
While the "Prince" was distracted by Klaitos, Robin repurposed the rope danging from the warehouse roof into a lasso. She yoked the hovering "Prince" by the shoulder, the loop of rope secured within the dents of his armor. She and Ekkels attempted to reel him in, but his wing-strength outmatched their arms, and they only managed to draw the rope taut.
The dragon-rider glared with indignation at Robin, ignoring the distracting rock Klaitos pelted at him. Suddenly, Ekkels leapt from the rooftop at the flying prince. Though he was unable to grab ahold, his aerial tackle was sufficient contact for him to detect magic flowing through his enemy's body - not only the strange, invisible dragonbreath, but another force that he couldn't draw upon.
Klaitos caught Ekkels safely from his two-story drop. He realized that his brawling prowess wasn't enough to take down the prince, if he kept to the air. Still carrying Ekkels, he raced across the plaza, hoping to draw the flying dragon-rider out into the open air for Angitt to fire upon from the wall-mounted ballistas.
The dragon-rider watched him run away, and coldly asked Robin if she thought her allies would care when he cut her down. He yanked the lasso from her grasp and knocked Angitt's ballista to break on the ground below. Robin responded by vanishing in a poof of smoke, sneaking away to the cover of the burning dragon-corpse.
The prince shed the rope and flew after Klaitos and Ekkels. Angitt reached her ballista, but he dodged her bolt without slowing his chase. Klaitos turned the chase to the main road, hoping that the open arena would afford Angitt a better shot. His pursuer closed in, and Ekkels - watching their backs as Klaitos carried him - saw him open his mouth to unleash another blast of the invisible dragonbreath.
Klaitos halted in the road and pivoted to face his opponent. He summoned his storm magic to channel the westward winds - still blowing, though dying down. He hurled Ekkels directly at the prince, shaping the wind into a narrow jet of air to bolster his throw and disrupt the wave of invisible dragon-breath. The attack was deflected, splashing out and eroding nearby buildings and cobblestones.
The chaos-mage projectile struck true; though Ekkels was yet again unable to grab onto his opponent, he seized hold of the dragon-breath and returned fire. The prince was unable to dodge the unexpected short-range blast, and his armor was damaged by it, but Ekkels landed painfully from his flight and was taken out of the battle before he could continue the assault.
Angitt followed up Ekkels's shot with another volley from the wall-mounted ballista, but the prince's reflexes were undulled by the surprise burning, and he evaded the bolt. Robin, watching Klaitos, Ekkels, and Angitt distract her target, coated a crossbow bolt with her last dose of poison. She fired across the plaza, and her sneak attack successfully tore through his wing, but the lethal poison produced no obvious effect.
The dragon-rider sank, his torn wing throwing off his flight for a moment. Klaitos seized the opportunity to imitate Ekkels, throwing himself at the armored man to grapple him out of the sky. His weight and might were enough to drag the prince to the ground, but his recklessness was punished with a vicious swordblow, and he fell unconscious, bleeding heavily onto the prince's armor.
As the part-dragon dragged himself out from where he had been pinned under the bleeding giant, Robin and Angitt fired upon the part-dragon, taking full advantage of his momentary lack of manueverability. Angitt's ballista speared through the prince's spine, and Robin's bolt sank deep into his scowling face. Finally defeated, he collapsed to the ground beside Klaitos.
